From the Field

Some impressions and words of wisdom from student teachers "on the field":

Teaching is way more intense than I thought, However, I think it is all worth it when I see that "light bulb" go on when I help a student understand a concept or teach them something new.  Being a teacher has lots of ups and downs.  The ups definitely out weigh the downs and I feel I am in the right profession.

I am very fortunate to be teaching at this High School.  On my very first day, I felt so welcomed by all the teachers.  So many teachers, even from different departments, introduced themselves and welcomed me to the community.  I find this very important to me because it shows that everyone is supportive, which provides a productive and efficient working environment. We played games and had meals provided to us by the school, indicating that they care about their teachers.

Some first impressions of the class I will be teaching are the students seem to be intimidated by the subject of biology.  They may have had friends before take the class and tell them it was difficult or maybe it is that majority of the students are 9th and 10th graders and are trying to adjust to the high school setting.

What puzzles me so far in the class is how we will cover all the standards required by the stay in such a short amount of time.  It is already the end of the second week of school and we have not yet completed the second unit.  There are only eighteen weeks in a semester and nineteen units much be covers in order for the students to be prepared for the end of course test.
