Youtube in the Classroom

YouTube is an online video website. Most videos on YouTube are music videos, vlogs, commercials, or other videos. Anyone with a google account can create a channel. YouTube can become a wonderful tool in the classroom if used appropriately.

Some ways to use YouTube in the Classroom:

YouTube is full of short informative videos and vlogs that can act as a hook for lessons.
Youtube can also act as a great refresher or recap for students on the prior knowledge they need to recall for the upcoming lesson.
Youtube can also be used to help struggling students keep up.
  • Providing students with additional content in a very accessible form can assist students in developing their knowledge of content. Like the parts of a cell
  • Teachers can even create their own YouTube Channels to create videos for struggling students. This could also be a way to provide parents examples of what material is being discussed in the classroom
Youtube videos can be used to start discussions in the classroom about current events that are related to science.
There is a multitude of opportunities that Youtube videos offers students and teachers, we must simply just find them!

  1. Your ideas of why we should use YouTube in the classroom were great. They made sense and I loved that you provided numerous reasons why it is a great tool to use. You even pointed things out I admittedly had never thought of with using YouTube as a tool (the idea of being able to show parents what their children are learning in class so they can keep on top of it as well). The best thing about this blog, in my opinion, is the vast amount of resources you provided. Not only did you provide links with examples of videos that could be used in the class but also channels for teachers to use to find various material to use in their classrooms. There are just a few grammar/tense errors but I don't think it's anything serious to worry about it since the point you got across greatly outweighs that (also since you posted this at 5 in the morning!). I think this was a pretty good blog post, great job Amy!
