Kahoots

What is it?
Kahoots is a fun and free way to formatively assess student learning. Creating a account is very easy and free. This website lets you make short and fun quizzes for your students to participate in during class. Each students answers the question on their own device. They can use a phone, tablet, or a computer. The question is on a screen that everyone can see, such as a smart board or a projector. Students earn points by correctly answering the questions, and the faster they answer them the more points they get.

How can it be used in the classroom?
This can be used to see what background knowledge students have before introducing new concepts. Making a Kahoot quiz can also be used to see if the students understood the material that you went over in class, or if they have any misconceptions about the concepts being discussed. Once every student has answered the question it gives a summary of how many answered correctly and how many answered incorrectly. From seeing what students missed it give you an opportunity to explain the concept to them again.

Final Thoughts
Kahoots is a fun way to see what your students understand in the classroom. It is a fun activity that allows the students to compete to see who can earn the most points. The competitive nature of the quiz helps to keep the students engaged and having fun while learning. This is a tool I definitely plan on using in my future classroom.

  1. Your blog was very informative and well thought out. The only thing I would add is a link to the website and maybe a link showing it in action. I would love to see a youtube video of it being used in the classroom. I think this is great idea/resource to create a little competition and a fun way to test knowledge about topics without giving a paper test.
